waay overdue update

dammit, I have to write this again (lost the first draft)...

well, the last three months have been hectic... my project had a grant proposal due at the beginning of March, so from the time I got back to Edmonton in January to the end of February I was pretty much working my ass off. It seems like my prof got a little impatient as well because he was checking up on me pretty much every day ("sooo... what are you doing now?"). It was good in a way because he kept me from going down the wrong paths, but bad as well in that the hour I spent explaining to him what I was doing was an hour I could have been working. Oh well... As it turns out, we implemented a new acquisition scheme that made it a lot simpler in a lot of ways but harder in another way. The last week before the grant was due, we got the new data on Thursday afternoon, I worked on implementing the necessary changes to the code until 4AM, and we hammered out the rest of the details of interpolation on Friday afternoon. Not bad for a project that was kind of stuck for the past three months! :P

We still have some bugs, like how to apply deformation rather than affine transformations to k-space (if it's even possible), decrease the size of the oversampled data to make it run faster, and qualitatively measure the correlation and increase in quality of our images. For now though, I'm hiding from my prof to get this paper for a class done :P.

In other areas, went back to kungfu last week; didn't realize how much I've missed it. About 15 minutes of practice and it feels like I've never left. Knee is fine, just have to watch it when doing flexion (still a little iffy at the extreme end, so no sitting on my heels). Went snowboarding for the first time as well this weekend, and fell like 1000 times :P It was fun though, and I can make it down the slope without killing myself or other people (although it was close a couple of times). I chose to go left-foot forward, which actually isn't the best for my knee (the forward leg tends to twist up when you fall), so I'll probably try goofy-foot next time. Noella was a super instructor, lets you go as slow as you want :P

Other than that, same study/party/work/procrastinate cycle going on. I'm at the procrastinate part right now ^^;; Going to the Green Day concert in May, although in the nosebleed section... practice jumping barricades haha... i'll probably chicken out though >_<

I'm not going to the conference in Miami (no money, and I probably would be going through it with a confused look as this is my first year), so me and Trish are thinking about going to San Francisco early May for a week. We'll stay with her brother who lives there, so it should be fun. Then in July, my family (minus Kat) is coming over to do some ice-field hiking in Jasper, and they're taking me with them back to the 'Peg for two weeks (gotta do more with them this time, as I was sick as a dog during winter break). Kat, you should come over in August, I'll put you guys up at my place :) chez Ange is open for anyone else who's passing through Edmonton too.

well, I'll post more at another time, got to go do some actual work >_< Have a good one!

cheers, Ange
